Bliss    (bls) n.

  1. Extreme happiness; ecstasy.
  2. The ecstasy of salvation; spiritual joy.

Santa Fe has become a home away from home and one of my favorite activities is to always make time to visit Ten Thousand Waves.   To the uninitiated, Ten Thousand Waves is a remarkable Japanese influenced spa and retreat set into the mountains just outside of the city.

This secluded sanctuary provides a direct conduit to “Bliss” for the mind, body and soul. The retreat convenes private baths, communal soaking tubs and gifted therapists who coax and knead the knots of civilization out of every nook and cranny in one’s body.

At first, I was going to write about the physical and spiritual experiences that transformed me one fateful day in the not too distant past. It was at the hands of a gifted therapist who utilized hot and cool river rocks to guide me in an excursion to “re-remember” some rather important lessons.

At the heart of the matter, those precious 90 minutes on the massage table provided an access to peace that I translated into simple happiness and joy. I became aware of the “conditions” too often placed on these precious feelings instead of “knowing” they are a special gift granted to each of us at birth.

I realized rather quickly in my altered state just how consumed I had been in the not so subtle art of making my life more complicated than need be. Moreover, my proficiency at adding doses of fear made for a powerful recipe of spiritual and emotional detachment and self-abandonment.

Once again you may be asking yourself, what is the point of all this in relationship to The Power of Bliss and to what “bliss” really looks like?

The answer is really quite simple. The energy of Santa Fe combined with the ethereal experience at 10 Thousand Waves simply provided the conduit to see and feel the transformational properties of Bliss in real time.

Here’s the real secret that you already know…

Love is THE catalyst to creating BLISS. No more, no less. The definitions of Bliss allow Spiritual Joy, Ecstasy, Salvation and Extreme Happiness to manifest as the alchemy of Love.

We are simply here in this life to give and receive love. We tend to complicate this soul driven mission by making things more difficult and focusing on the wrong things. As author Greg Anderson so aptly remarked, “Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it.”

It’s not so ironic that conversations of late seem to gravitate around relationships that are either in or out of Love. At our core, it is truly what each and every one of us craves. That elusive connection to another human being that brings forth a realm of our true self, by which all other moments are measured.

What keeps us to continually push away that which we crave so desperately? It is rather maddening to witness the inevitable ping-pong match between heart and mind when it comes to something so simple and desirous as Love. We should ask ourselves; are the perceived feelings of rejection, pain and loss too great to keep me out of what I seek so passionately?

And so, we circle back around, as life always seems to do, to a place in which it all begins and ends. The secret elixir is certainly and unequivocally Love. The key is being able to embrace it fully in each and every precious moment, both internally and externally.

Want a quick taste of real Bliss? Lean over and whisper into your partner’s ear how much you adore and cherish them. Be Present and kiss them passionately while looking into their eyes. Create a moment that generates magic and leaves an indelible exclamation point of Bliss for both of you.

Here’s another little secret. If you don’t have a partner in your life or close by, reach out to a child, parent, sister, brother, relative, or best friend. Actively embracing these special connections creates the real power and presence of Love shared with each other. Let them know how much they mean to you, even if you think they already know.

And finally; turn Love inward and acknowledge yourself for everything you are and even more so– for everything that you believe you are not. It is in the full acceptance of ourselves that provides access to the truest form and most important aspect of receiving and experiencing Love. Therefore, we are able to fully live it and give it unconditionally.

Knowledge resides in the Mind and Wisdom rests in our Hearts. Let your heart that knows real love, triumph over what you think and perceive that others in your life must certainly already know. It is firmly rooted in our dynamic expression of Love to others, and ourselves that bridge all distance and time. Bliss is here for you, and all it takes is Love.

The real question becomes whether or not we are truly ready to push aside all fears and perceived obstacles to reach out for it fully and be ready for the simplicity of attaining it.

I am ready. Are you?
